Als bekennender Star Wars Fan besitze ich natürlich alle Scores von JohnWilliams. Der Meister ist es, dem Star Wars zum größten Teil seinen Erfolg verdient. Ist das übertieben? Gewiss nicht. Man muss sich nur den Lauftext vorstellen, mit einem Thema, das nicht die Wucht besitzt, die Williams in seine Musik gelegt hat. Oder den Blick auf die zwei Sonnen Tatooines, ohne die getragene Melodie, die Williams der Macht zugeordnet hat. Vaders Auftritt in “Das Imperium schlägt zurück“, in dem der Imperial March fehlt. Die Bilder wären die gleichen, aber das Gefühl von Stärke, Schönheit und Dynamik, würde nicht vermittelt.
Die Musik ist die Seele der Bilder. So würde ich das mal formulieren. Deswegen muss es den Star Wars Machern gelingen, Komponisten zu finden, die es schaffen, Atmosphäre zu transportieren.
Michael Giacchino zum Beispiel hat das Zeug dazu, ist aber noch ausbaufähig.
Ludwig Göransson macht einen guten Job, aber sein Score, für The Mandalorian klingt oft zu dünn und gerät stellenweise unter die Räder.
Was kann man also machen, um die stimmige Atmosphäre von Star Wars, weiterhin zu gewährleisten?
Ich hatte mal gehört, dass es ein Programm gibt, das Werke von Künstlern nachahmen kann. Zumindest den Stil. Ich hätte nichts dagegen, wenn ein Komponist verpflichtet würde, der dieses Programm für seinen Score zur Hilfe nähme, um den Stil von John Williams in Star Wars weiterzuführen.

As a self-confessed Star Wars fan, I have of course all the John Williams Scores. The Master made Star Wars a success for a realy big Part. Is that an exaggeration? Certainly not. You just have to imagine the scrolling text, with a theme that doesn’t have the force that Williams put into his music. Imagine the view of Tatooine’s two suns, without the solemn melody Williams attributed to the Force. Vader’s appearance in „The Empire Strikes Back“, in which the Imperial March is missing. The images would be the same, but the feeling of strength, beauty and dynamism would not be conveyed.
The music is the soul of the pictures. That’s how I would put it. That is why the Star Wars makers have to succeed in finding composers, who manage to convey atmosphere. Michael Gioacchino for example, has what it takes, but there is still room for improvement. Ludwig Göransson does a good job, but his score, for The_Mandalorian often sounds too thin and get thrown under the bus sometimes, when action set in. That never happened to the Williams score.
So what can be done, to ensure the consistent atmosphere of Star Wars?
I once heard, that there is a program, that could imitate works from several artists. At least the style. I would not mind, if a composer were obliged to use this program, to help out with his score, to use the style of John_Williams, to be continued in Star Wars.
